The Greek authorities can and have allowed night operations, but rarely. The airport was opened in 1972.2 It is 4.3 km from Zante and other tourist destinations such as Lagana, Tsilivi and Kalamaki. The airport runway is 16/34 oriented.
In December 2015, the privatization of Zante International Airport and 13 other Greek regional airports was carried out through the agreement between the Fraport AG/Copelouzos Group joint venture and the state privatization fund.3 4 According to the agreement, this company will operate all 14 airports (including Santorini’s) for 40 years since autumn 2016.
