Passenger arrivals at South Aegean international airports on the rise

The trend of passengers arriving at South Aegean international airports is increasing. Reportedly, the dam of a total 89,560 arrivals during the first 16 days of July was overtaken at the weekend of 18-19 July, during which, according to data this year, a considerable number of arrivals took place.

Likewise, the islands of Santorini and Mykonos attracted over 3,000 foreign tourists within 24 hours (Wednesday 22/07).

The messages from the first three weeks’ tourist traffic are generating cautious optimism for a peak in the period which this year is set at the months of August and September.

In particular, at the weekend of 18 and 19 July at international airports in Kos, Santorini and Mykonos (according to Fraport) and Carpathos airport (according to US data), a total of 97 flights were made through which 12 856 foreign tourists arrived. In particular, on Saturday, July 18, 2020: 30 flights to Kos, with 4 521 passengers arriving Santorini received 12 flights in which 1 512 passengers arrived In Mykonos, 11 flights arrived in which 1284 passengers arrived In Carpatho, 1 flight arrived, with 83 passengers Total 55 flights with 7 400 passengers Source:

  • Kos airport received 25 flights with 3 355 passengers
  • In Santorini airport there were 9 flights in which 1 030 passengers arrived
  • In Mykonos airport there were 8 flights in which 975 passengers arrived
  • In Carpathos, 2 flights arrived, with 96 passengers arriving

Total 43 flights with 5 456 passengers

Based on data up to 22/7, the largest number of arrivals on the islands of Santorini and Mykonos took place on Wednesday, 22/7, when the two Cyclades’ destinations received a total of 3,150 tourists within 24 hours.

In particular, 11 flights arrived at the International Airport of Mykonos on Wednesday 22/07, with 1,473 tourists arriving and 1,677 tourists arrived at Santorini International Airport.

At Rhodes Diagoras airport, according to Fraport’s official data on the weekend of July 18-19, a record of arrivals was recorded as compared to the average for the first 15 days, arrivals are up by 130%.

In particular, on Saturday, July 18, 2020, 44 flights arrived at the Rhodes International Airport, with 6,108 foreign visitors arriving, and on Sunday, July 19, 2020, 34 flights arrived, with 5,225 foreign visitors arriving. If Friday July 16th data is included, the day 3,688 tourists arrived on the island via 17 flights, then the number of tourists arriving on the island of Rhodes on July 16th-19th through 96 flights is 15,121.

Between the restart of this year’s tourist season (July 1st) and July 19th through 341 flights to Diagoras airport, a total of 56,341 tourists arrived.

From 1/07  22/07, a total of 5 international N Airports arrived. Aegean (Rhodes, Kos, Mykonos, Santorini, Karpathos) 147,169 foreign tourists via 1,106 flights.
